Life in "the wait"

As we're approaching the day to begin our "Surprise Me" experiment, I've noticed something. I seem to be living life in "the wait." I realize this as I hear the voice in my head say things like:

"When February 6th gets here, then I'll begin looking."
"A week from today - that's when I'll be keeping an eye out for God."
"If only it were next week . . ."

Silly me. God waits for no one. No surprise there.

Boo!

A band in New York

Sunday. NFL final four. You'd think it would have been a great day for football. Oops...

Tonight (Monday, January 23rd) my nephew John and his band are playing on the lower east side in NYC. There may be some music execs dropping by for a listen. Good luck, John - I'll keep my windows down, listening from afar.

Friends

This morning I've been reminded of the importance of friends. Aren't they great? All shapes, sizes, opinions, circumstances - and yet the common thread is a certain care, leniency, and charity - freely bestowed - that continues to draw us together.

To all those I'm privileged to call friend - "Thank You."

A quiet Saturday

Today (Saturday) was fairly routine. Is "fairly routine" redundant? Anyway . . .

The morning began with a trip to the Bean Counter. This has become my "get-away-to-study" location over the last year or so. Nice atmosphere, quiet, and a good cup of coffee. After a short stay, I returned home to the welcoming aroma of pancakes. Krista's hot breakfast sounded (and smelled) much better than my early morning bowl of crunchies.

NFL play-offs continued. Seattle and Denver survive to fight another day. Washington and New England - enjoy the time off . . .

Creating the habit

I'm thinking I may go ahead and "post" during this "between time" - before the start of my 30-day faith experiment. I've never journaled on a regular basis. Maybe now's the time to get in the habit.

I started the day early, dropping off Jacob at day care. Jacob is 10 months old and the light of our lives. He has eyes like his mothers - not in color but in that I love looking into them. From day care it was back home for a quick cup of coffee before meeting a friend, Andy, at the Bean Counter for . . . more coffee.

Andy and I met a lady this morning who was having one last cup of caffeine before starting a 22 hour drive (her estimate) to Michigan - some family matters to take care of. We'll keep an eye out for her in the future. At the last minute Andy and I decided to see the Abilene opening of "Glory Road," a movie about the 1966 Texas Western basketball team that won the NCAA championship. Good movie and good discussion followed.

Tonight, Krista took care of Jacob (which meant feeding, bathing, and changing an award winning diaper). She's awesome.

My first blog

On February 6, 2006, I'll begin my 30 day journey, exploring the great unknown of one daily request . . . "God, surprise me."

See you in February . . .
